Anytime you visit a church, especially a growing one, you can expect people with an unimaginable grin greeting you in a salesman kind of an approach. If you pay attention, you’ll notice that many churchgoers believe their church to be the best in the world. At the same time, in order that they may seem humble enough, they tell you that they’re not perfect – of course.
But why are we being convinced to join a specific church (preferably my church), when the Bible teaches us clearly that the Church is the body of believers and when we meet someone new, we are to invite them to follow Christ (as we are supposedly following Him). Asking someone to be integrated into an organization or denomination is secondary, if not completely insignificant.
I’d like to make an appeal to those faithful believers not to worship their “home church”, but to abide within the universal body of Christ and put THEM above all others.
Can you love The Church more than you love your church?
